The Future of 3D Seems to be More Dimensionally 2D

An article in Channel News entitled “3D Goes From Hype to Xmas Flop. So What’s Next?” tends to paint a rather dismal picture of 3D, at least from an Australian perspective. It’s no secret that 3D, at least in its current design, is rather expensive and annoying at the same time. Those glasses are a real nuisance. TV manufacturers are noticing that promotions are taking a chunk out of the bottom line. Placing 3D photography in the equation doesn’t help either especially with it’s spotty success record. The electronics industry is determined to make 3D work. With CES (Consumer Electronics Show) scheduled for January 2011 it appears that once again the focus with be here. Do note, however, that Gary Shapiro, CEO of Consumer Electronics Association, believes that 3D is “over-hyped” and should be considered a feature. But, you just have to wonder if there is a recipe for success…
