DxOMark has taken on the Nikon D7000. How did it do? Well, it earns an 80 in Overall Sensor Scores that are comprised from independent testing operations using state-of-the-art equipment and following industry standard methods. But, as NR has noted the Pentax K-5, also with an APS-C sensor came in at 82. Still, 80 is not bad. More information on the D7000 performance including such things as ISO Sensitivity, Color Resonse, and Dynamic Range are also available.
