NikonRumors has posted a questionable screenshot of what may be the long-awaited new Nikon 85mm f1.2 AF-S ED VR prime. While it’s by no means conclusive, this would be VERY welcome news to many a Nikon shooter, especially the PROS.
The Nikon 85mm f1.4 is a fantastic lens, but many Nikon shooters have lusted over the f1.2L glass that Canon has, and if this lens becomes a reality, then Nikon shooters will finally have an f1.2 option, at 85mm anyways.
Make no mistake, it’ll be pricey. Many people will say you don’t even need f1.4, so why bother with f1.2, but then there will be those that swear by their Canon f1.2L glass saying you just can’t understand until you’ve shot at f1.2.
Personally, f1.4 is fine for me.
Honestly, I like my Nikon 50mm f1.8 and don’t feel the need for the f1.4.
BUT, I have many a friend who loves their Canon f1.2L primes. My good friend Peter Gregg is one of them. It’s like a holy grail for Peter and the other f1.2 lovers. To hear them talk about f1.2, you’d think they’d been to heaven.
In the end, more lens choices are always better, so bring it on Nikon!
