Nikon D8000

Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls, introducing the latest revolutionary DSLR from Nikon, the Nikon D8000.

Ok, so it’s not out yet.  Personally, I don’t even think it will be called the D8000, but NikonRumors has posted that they have some “vibes from the rumor mill” that the D90 replacement will be called the D8000.  Me, I’m with Thom Hogan on this one.  The D90 replacement will most likely be called the D7000.

Anyways, naming aside, this is exciting stuff.  We’re expecting an announcement anyday now from Nikon regarding this little gem.  NikonRumors said they think the D8000 will have 1080HD video and a 16-18MP sensor.  This is bang on to what I’ve been predicting for the D90 replacement, the D7000 or D8000, whatever you choose to call it.

I, for one, will very much appreciate having 1080HD video.  I’m having a ball using the video in my Nikon D90 and have just picked up a Canon T2i with a few lenses to test it out, mostly for the 1080HD video.  It’s safe to say that if the D90 replacement was here, I would’ve bought it the moment it hit the shelves and skipped the T2i altogether (mind you, I’m very impressed with the video and image quality out of the T2i… MUCH better than I was expecting).
The 18MP sensor will be welcome too in the D7000.  Every little bit helps as long it doesn’t come at the expense of high ISO image quality, which from what I’ve seen in the T2i, Nikon should have no problem doing an 18MP APS-C sensor that will be equal to, dare I say even beat, the D90 for high ISO image quality.
Come on Nikon!  I’m on the edge of my seat here. :-)
