FourThirds Sensor? :: Successors to the Leica D-Lux 4 and Panasonic LX3

As big fans of the Leica D-Lux 4 and Panasonic LX3 cameras it’s pretty well-known that replacements were due as Photokina nears. Yes, it’s been about 2 years since these brother and sister cameras were introduced. Now the word is that their sensors will get beefed up to FourThirds size. This does make sense although a bit surprising now that Leica has already embraced the APS-C sensor in their X1. Nonetheless, a FourThirds sensor appealing at least on paper. On the flip side it would be a horrible, horrible shame should these successors get messed up at this point, something that happens when redesigns come into play. Could it be that the zoom will only be a meager 3X optical? Will the price be realistic? And, if anyone is listening get rid of that ridiculous removable lens cap. Almost in unanimous agreement were the reviews that singled out the cap as a big flaw, inconvenience and irritation. For now there should be more than 10-megapixels of resolution. Here’s to the successors. Long live the successors!…
