Canon 30mm f1.8

CanonRumors heard a story of a Canon rep talking about a new Canon 30mm f1.8 that’ll be coming out to compete with the Nikon 35mm f1.8.

I like that the lens would be 30mm instead of 35mm.  The extra 5mm can make all the difference when you need to go wider.  It doesn’t sound like a lot, but trust me, it can be.

This lens will be a big seller for Canon if it’s true.  Nikon’s 35mm f1.8 has been very popular and is a stellar optic.  If Canon can make one as sharp, it’ll be a winner.

The existing Canon 28mm f1.8 isn’t bad, but it could be sharper.  A fair bit sharper actually.  I expect more from a prime lens than the Canon 28mm f1.8 delivers.

Let’s hope the Canon 30mm f1.8 is coming soon, and let’s hope it’s sharp enough to draw blood.

So that would make it a 39 mm on the Mark IV. Why bother. Just make a better 28.1.8. Canon just needs to get rid of the 1.3 crop and go full frame and then add the feature like Nikon has to use a cropped look.
