Is Lightroom Coming to an iPad Near You?

Adobe evangelist Terry White said a lot with a wink and smile when asked about the possibility of Adobe Lightroom coming out for the iPad.  Given the ongoing tensions between Apple and Adobe these days, it would be rather amusing to see Adobe cash in on the iPad’s thunder by putting out a Lightroom app.

Thinking about it, an iPad specific Lightroom app could be pretty cool.  Slideshows on the fly.  Quick image adjustments and a cool preview for your clients after a shoot.

As a regular  post-production tool, I don’t see it happening.   The iPad just isn’t powerful enough to run full post-production workflows on in an efficient manner.

But hey, I run Lightroom on my laptop, and it’s not my regular post-production machine.  It’s slower, but it works.  Sometimes if I’m just tinkering in the living room trying to avoid watching Oprah with the wife, Lightroom on my laptop is wonderful.  Maybe Lightroom on an iPad would be fun too!

lightroom’s unique selling point is how powerful it is at processing and organising. i am sure the ipad has something native that would allow for very basic adjustments and slideshows :-(

I don’t know what kind of laptop you have, but on a MacBook Pro Lightroom is blazing fast and is more than capable of running a post production workflow.

    Maybe you need more RAM.

My heart skipped a beat when I read that headline! It’s not that I necessarily WANT a full running version of Lightroom on my soon-to-be-purchased iPad, but what I am thinking of is a way to export, copy or transfer my Lightroom Collections to my iPad via some easy workflow. If a Lite version of LIghtroom would do that…fantastic! If not, I hope somebody smarter than me will write a plugin for this. I hope, I hope, I hope!
