Photographers Launch Fundraising Magazine to Aid Haiti Quake Victims

SAN FRANCISCO, 15 January 2010– Professional photographers are offering a special edition fundraising magazine through the Magcloud print-on-demand service to benefit victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti.

The magazine features work from preeminent photographers and all proceeds will go directly to the International Red Cross to assist the people of Haiti. The issue is titled Onè Respe, after a traditional Haitian greeting meaning honor and respect.

Mary Ellen Mark, winner of three Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards and acclaimed photographers Peter Pereira, Chet Gordon, Lindsay Stark and Kari Hartmann donated their work for this important project.

San Francisco photojournalist Lane Hartwell, who is spearheading the project, says “the news of the disaster in Haiti deeply touched me, both as a person and as a photojournalist. I wondered what I could do to help, and spoke with my friend and colleague Peter Pereira, who had the privilege of shooting in Haiti in November 2009. The idea began with his essay, but others quickly came forward with generous contributions and before we knew it we had a magazine. We started on the morning of the 13th and had it available before midnight PST on the 14th”

The magazine features stunning world-class photography, presented on high-quality paper with cutting edge printing technology. It is printed on FSC-certified paper stock from responsibly managed forests and verified recycled sources. It is 50% recycled (10% post-consumer, 40% pre-consumer).

Derek Powazek of Magcloud designed the issue, which is available at magcloud.com or directly at http://magcloud.com/browse/Magazine/57585
