New 70-200 VRII gets a nice test

My friend Cliff Mautner, who I may add is one of the best photographers I know, has taken the new Nikon 70-200 VRII lens for a test drive. He displays pictures on his blog and even compares he results between the new lens and the lens it replaces.

If this doesn’t get your juices flowing for one of these bad boys then I don’t know what to say. Look at the specs of the pictures he shows as samples. the shutter speeds are amazingly slow.

The rule of thumb is your true focal length should be your slowest hand held shutter speed. Yet Cliff is showing pictures at 200mm and shooting at crazy slow shutter speeds. What the heck kind of gyros are in these new lenses?

I guess this makes me kind of pine for a Nikon 24-70 2.8 IS lens. That would be awesome. Take a look over at Cliff’s blog for his terrific write-up on the new Nikon 70-200 VRII lens and look at the samples he provides.
