EOS utility questions

I'm just learning the ins and outs of shooting tethered and am frustrated with something I don't understand.
  1. Is there a reasonable explanation why EOS utility renames the files that are captured to a folder on my computer to a different file name than what remains on my camera's CF card? I'm going to be doing some event photography coming up, and if I show clients a preview of the images (either DPP or ZoomBrowser) and they choose specific images, then those images will be differently named than the "backup" files on my memory card. If I try and match up files from my memory card to specific people, it could create problems if I'm essentially trying to work with two differently names images. Is there a way to NOT let EOS utility rename the files in any way? I guess this really is a best-practices workflow question.
  2. Do you recommend using either DPP or ZoomBrowser to preview the images? Or should I just tell it to NOT open any linked software and manually use another program. If so, what do you recommend?

1. I haven't tried writing to card AND to computer, so I don't have any experience doing that. But, it seems there is a very versatile naming scheme in the Utility preferences, so that you could have them match up, if in no other way, with the same numerical number on the end, (which is what I mostly key on). You probably have the numbering on the card set for sequential numbering, so you wouldn't want to disturb that. But, if you did go to RESET for numbering, you can always reset the in-camera numbering by putting the correct number on a card, and have the camera take up where it left off. My point here is that there seems to be a very versatile numbering method on both the card and downloading so that the problem is not unsolvable.

2 I have used DPP mostly for previewing. There's always some slight delay in presentation with most programs, which seems to be just the response times of the various routines involved. Try'em both and see which ones you like best.

Thanks for pointing out what should have been obvious to me. I did a few quick tests and for now I'm happy with what I've got. As long as the numerical portion of the filename is consistent that is good for me. I guess I could rename the prefix to match, but perhaps a more descriptive prefix would be more appropriate (something I DO know how to do with batch processing and DPP).
