WFT-E2 help required (an oft heard cry)

I am trying to set up an WFT-E2 can I set up up to communicate with the computer directly without an access point?

Many thanks,

Peter McDonald

Yes, the ad-hoc mode offered in the wireless options will allow a direct connection between the laptop and the transmitter. This is slightly more complicated to set up at first and will typically have slightly less range than infrastructure mode (ie when operated with an access point/router), however it obviously has the advantage of being much more practical for field use.

Either way, if you can give us a little more information on your setup (what platform (Mac/Windows/etc.) and OS version (Vista, XP, 10.4.10, etc.) you are using, the software in use on the computer side, etc.), we should be able to provide specific instructions on getting up and running

Re: WFT-E2 help required (an oft heard cry)

Firstly many many thanks for giving me hope! I have used the old WFT-E1 with enough success to see that wireless can work.

Here is the equipment that I am trying to use:

Ibm Thinkpad R50e running Win XP Pro (with Internet Information Services installed)

.Net Framework 2.0

Asus 802.11b/g Wireless Lan card

Eos Utility and Eos WFT utility installed on pc

Eos Mark3 camera + transmitter connected

If you require any other information please do let me know.

Thanks for your time and effort helping me.

All the best,

Pete

Well folks over 200 people have viewed my cry for help, but no joy on my part getting a successfull resolution to my problem. I have been round the web a couple of times looking for the answer. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Many thanks,

Pete

Re: WFT-E2 help required (an oft heard cry)

Sorry that I can't give you direct help with your setup as I am a Mac guy, but I wonder if you have tried giving Canon a call.

I have a WFT-E2 and MKIII and was not able to get the ad hoc link to work with my Powerbook Pro as I didn't seem to have all the software that was mentioned in the instructions. I called the help line and was amazed to get someone who not only knew what he was talking about, but was prepared to spend the time talking me through it while I made the connection. As it turns out the Mac has the software already installed, and you can let it do all the setup for you automatically, but the customer service guy had the whole thing spelled out in detail in front of him and seemed to really know something rather than just reading from a script. If they can help with a Mac, I am sure they could talk you through it on a PC.

Good luck.

David.

Re: WFT-E2 help required (an oft heard cry)

Thanks for your support and encouragement David. I contacted Canon Europe this morning they said that they did not have any information on how to set up this transmitter (having been on hold for twenty minutes). They have however passed my request up to senior technicians. It is my fault really as I had the old WFT-E1 working in ad hoc mode within half an hour. I fell for the 'improved easier to set up' marketing blurb for the WFT-E2 :-(

Has anyone found a source for the WFT-Ex manuals?
