Wi-Pics still in business?

I purchased the Canon WFT unit and was very frustrated, had many problems and Canon wouldn't even speak with me about it. So last summer I purchased the Wi-Pics unit and the guys at that company seemed to be very available to help. We go so far with the unit, then I ran into problems but didn't have time to troubleshoot. So I put it on the back burner until this last December. The holidays are my slow season.

I've called and emailed the guys at Dice America for weeks. I think I've left 3 voice messages on both the sales and the support lines. But they are not replying to me. Does anyone know if they are still in business? I'm going to put the unit on ebay soon, but thought I would check one last time. They seemed real nice and eager to help in August, now they won't reply to me.

Has anyone been using the Canon WFT since the update? I didn't sell that unit yet, so if the update fixes my problems maybe I'll just keep it.
Thanks.

Well, no one had any posts. I learned at PPA Imaging that DICE who makes the Wi-Pics product is out of business. If anyone wants to purchase a unit, please contact me at rand@morningstarprod.com

Oh, this stinks...I was hoping to get a Wi-Pics unit this year. Honestly, I was hoping they'd introduce a second-generation model first.

I might still be interested, if I could get one at a bargain. If any of you have one to sell at a discount, I'd be happy to hear the details...

Re: Wi-Pics still in business?

Terry,

Yep, I'll have one at a bargain as well.

However, I cannot believe that the idea will die. I saw something similar at Photokina three years ago and at about a tenth the price. However, it was designed to work only in an uknown (to me anyway) brand of p&s. I guess that died a death as the p&s never established itself in a market of better known brands.

It's all very well people like Canon integrating WiFi into their top end DSLR's but there are photographers like me who prefer to work with something like a 350D and leave the 1Ds at home. They will never put WiFi into a 350D camera for 'amateurs' so a card that transmitted the WiFi is the solution.

Maybe the people winding up Wi-Pics financially will be smart enough to sell on the know-how.

Ever hopeful.

Re: Wi-Pics still in business?

Why can't some enterprising fellow take one of these Belkin : Wireless G USB Network Adapter that costs $35 and add a simple circuit or chip to fool the camera into thinking it's tethered.

For all I know this alone may work....I may have to see if I have the cords to give it a go!

Re: Wi-Pics still in business?

Did it, Chris?

I was told that the software in the camera was not up to it - but it would be great to be proved wrong.

I tried phoning the UK distributor of Wi-Pics yesterday and ended up with an answering service. No call back yet. Ominous.
