Windows Update Hell

Somehow or another, Windows update thinks it has updates to install on one of my PC's. It tells me it has updates to install, and wants me to click on the icon to install. However, if I click on the install button, I get the "Installing Updates" screen, but no progress at all on the progress bar. and eventually freezes the entire system. If I try to shut the machine down, Update tries to install the updates upon shutdown, and it tries, and tries, and tries, but never leaves the "Don't turn off your machine!!! We're installing updates, 1...2...3. I've searched the Microsoft help archive, and can't find a solution. Any ideas?

BTW, checking my update history, I'm currently up to date on all updates.

Hi Randy, I had a machine stop accepting updates shortly after migrating to SP2, but Microsoft support helped me resolve it. I'd suggest contacting Microsoft support. There is no charge support for Windows Update support.
