Re: Microsoft Windows XP SP2 1394 hotfix

David I have 2 external drives in pryro boxes, one a 200 gig and the other a 100gig. I plugged the 100 directly into my firewire card and left the 200 daisy chained to my sony ext dvd, the dvd being the last device and they are plugged in to the 3rd port, the first port is for my card reader...

Which external drive is giving you fits? The 100 or the 200? If it's the 200, does it misbehave if you temporarily move the Sony out of the loop?

Do all three drives just work out of the box with XP, or are there additional drivers that get installed?

The 100 as I stated,is direct to fw card. I just changed the cable and it took 45sec for it to be recognized and then start autoplay

Sorry for being thick; I was rushing to work.

Are your two external drive enclosures identical? Were they bought at the same time?

Which hard drive makes/models are these?

Can you try this:
* swap the firewire card ports at the interface card, ie move the cable with the 100 on it to the port with the 200 and vice versa, then check the time for PnP discovery
* If that's still long, swap the drive locations, ie move the 200 to be direct connect and stick the 100 in the chain with the Sony drive
