The CBL White balance tool

The CBL White balance tool

This was a really good day here at World Headquarters, out where the West begins. I managed to get the entire X10 system for control of the patio and backyard lights working, and finished the installation of the new lock system on the door to my workshop outbuilding (made tricky by the 3.5" thickness of its barn-style door).

Then, to complete my day of good fortune, I got not one but two e-mail messages calling my attention to two different white balance tools. One pointed out that Camera Dojo had given the ColorRight white balance tool a score of 4.8 out of 5 in their review. Attaboy, Drew. The review itself is fascinating reading.

But it was soon eclipsed on the best read list here after I got a wire from Will Thompson mentioning the CBL Lens white balance tool. I had run into this item before, but from the manufacturer's literature was unable to figure out how one used it or how it worked. (Regular readers here may recall that before my recent cure I was concerned with such things.)

So I took a fresh look at the information about the device. It is still indeed fascinating.

Those looking for something a little different might want to give it a look. Here is the site of what I take to be the manufacturer's principal representative for the CBL Lens:

International Supplies | CBL Lens Full Color & White Balance System

And here is a link to the "product training manual":

The device is available from B&H.

What, indeed, hath God wrought!

LOL, and to think I used to get such heat for suggesting people use JPEG shooting, where an accurate preset white balance is important.

From the literature listed above, quote "The Grey Reverse Side is formulated from a secret combination of thirteen different materials".

Well, in contrast to the above, a little known fact is that the ColorRight is formulated almost exclusively from highly stable elements originally created in cosmologically ancient supernova explosions, from near the dawn of time itself.

Indeed.

I thought you'd enjoy the CBL material.

Doug
