My criticism was (and still is) that in presenting a product for sale (the Color Parrot/ColorRight white balance measurement diffuser), Drew has steadfastly refused to present for our consideration any technical rationale for its properties or for the claims that these properties lead to performance better than that of other competitive products.
What little actual technical data he has proffered (including some supposedly showing superior characteristics of the device compared to certain competitive devices) is based on what I can most charitably call "questionable" measurement techniques.
Running through the entire early parts of the discussion was the theme from Drew that by asking nerdy technical questions I was "sabotaging" the spirit of Kumbaya that was supposed to exist around this new device.
Just to clarify the history, typical questions I asked were:
"You say that the Color Parrot is 'targeted'. What technical property are you referring to?"
Answer: none given.
"The acceptance pattern of the Color Parrot is considerably narrower than is often thought to be ideal for this purpose, evidently by intent. You claim that this gives the device better performance than other devices (especially in "from the camera position" measurement). Could you explain how that works?"
Answer: none given.
Ultimately, all these questions were answered this way (I paraphrase a little):
"What is really more important, the six or so people who have asked technical questions about the device or the several hundred who have ordered one?"
No, I never had any comparable beef with Rob Galbraith. |
