Does the Color Parrot have a new marketing slogan?
WillThompson

The latest marketing quotation "This sucker works!!" reminds me of the Looney Tunes segment where Buggs Bunny just made a sucker out of some schmuck and the character fades into a sucker candy with a label that says SUCKER! then fades...

Ron,

The main difference I see between Drew and Rob is that Rob would have banned and booted the folks who gave him flack. I give Drew a lot of credit for weathering the negative chatter and for not banning folks who disagree with his position or product.

You couldn't, as Rob highly censored his list. His idea for the list wasn't the dissemination of information freely. While Drew has used this place as a platform to some degree for his product, he deserves a lot of kudo's for NOT resorting to censorship especially stuff that's been harsh. Rob had super thin skin and was a real Nazi about deleting lots of posts. That's why his forums imploded. Unless you yell "Fire" in a crowded theater, a forum like this should be open to people's opinions. Drew has allowed this. That is why so many of us who told Rob to kiss off came back. We're in much better hands now!

Hi, Ron,

Speaking for myself (and I have been perhaps the most vocally critical of Drew in this way I will shortly describe), the criticism was not of Drew as the moderator of this form, in which I feel he does a good job.

My criticism was (and still is) that in presenting a product for sale (the Color Parrot/ColorRight white balance measurement diffuser), Drew has steadfastly refused to present for our consideration any technical rationale for its properties or for the claims that these properties lead to performance better than that of other competitive products.

What little actual technical data he has proffered (including some supposedly showing superior characteristics of the device compared to certain competitive devices) is based on what I can most charitably call "questionable" measurement techniques.

Running through the entire early parts of the discussion was the theme from Drew that by asking nerdy technical questions I was "sabotaging" the spirit of Kumbaya that was supposed to exist around this new device.

Just to clarify the history, typical questions I asked were:

"You say that the Color Parrot is 'targeted'. What technical property are you referring to?"

Answer: none given.

"The acceptance pattern of the Color Parrot is considerably narrower than is often thought to be ideal for this purpose, evidently by intent. You claim that this gives the device better performance than other devices (especially in "from the camera position" measurement). Could you explain how that works?"

Answer: none given.

Ultimately, all these questions were answered this way (I paraphrase a little):

"What is really more important, the six or so people who have asked technical questions about the device or the several hundred who have ordered one?"

No, I never had any comparable beef with Rob Galbraith.

I certainly agree. I admire Drew for that.

I suppose that by "negative chatter" you may be in part referring to the various technical questions I asked about the Color Parrot. (I discuss this in a slightly earlier message in this thread.)

Best regards,

Doug

Doug,

By negative chatter I was not referring to you or your valued technical posts. I've been with this community for awhile and seen quite a bit and that was all I meant by that. I apologize if you've taken any offense to my reference of negative chatter.
