Color Parrot stuck inside

Well I've had the color parrot for about 2 hours now and my initial impressions are...

No idea, because the filter container in which it has been shipped refuses to open. Its stuck. I and two other people have tried everything we can think of, and it looks like the only solution will be to cut or smash it open. My "suggestion" is to check this out, because presently I'm a little irritated, as you might understand.

Its also worth mentioning that if, like me, you are importing it in to the UK, then depending on how lucky you are (I was not), you will incur VAT and "handling" charges from UK customs of £16.92 (roughly $30).

The "case" is peculiar in that to loosen the top you have to turn it clockwise, not the expected counter-clockwise!

If you have tried mightily to loosen it by turning counter-clockwise, it may have become jammed. Then just use a small knife to pry the lid up a bit.

Doug,

I have tried both ways, trust me! A cut finger and sprained wrists later and its still stuck. I have no doubt there is a worthwhile product inside, unfortunately I cannot put that to the test at the moment.

Probably literally, right?

You might be intersted in a report on technical testing of the latest version of the Color Parrot:

The Color Parrot v 1.2 - Laboratory tests - Open Photography Forums

Best regards,

Doug

Re: Righty-loosey, lefty-tighty

Sorry for the trouble with the case and customs.

Most other customers have not had any serious duties. I have heard reports of a few dollars. Part of the reason we ship in such innocuous looking packaging is to hopefully minimize the interest of the customs folks. Guess it didn't work in this case.

As for the case. A few people have reported having trouble with them as well. The "thread" seems to be japanese? At least that is what the manufacturer tells me. Is it true they tighten and loosen in the opposite direction?

Anyway I am in discussions with the manufacturer about including a different style of case. I will be happy to send you one free if yours is now broken. It will probably be a few weeks before we get all that finalized.

Mine's lefty loosie, and there appears to be no thread whatsoever. Looks like a complex shape with an interference fit. It just gets tighter when turned, to the point where it binds, but at no point does anything "catch".
