Online proofs and albums?

I just did my first wedding since film and am lost on how to best proceed.

Is there a place where I can upload wedding photos and let the bride do her own ordering of prints and albums?

Thank you for any ideas you have! Curt

Re: Online proofs and albums?

There are lots of on-line services available. I'll leave those suggestions to the people who use them.

First, do you really need to change just because it's shot digitally? You can still print & show paper proofs just as you always have. You can also create a slideshow on a DVD that can't be used to make prints, you can simply hand them the DVD of images, you can post on-line and have them place the order with you. So many options.

Since you've already shot it, what is the Bride expecting??

My personal choice is to create a standard paper proof album accompanied by a DVD and a slideshow of highlights on my web site. That way, there is a physical book that the Bride can show to family & friends, she's got the images she can print or email and there's a slideshow for family & friends to view. I prefer this method after trying most other options but weddings are a regional thing - what goes here, may not be accepted there.

One advantage of the proof album is that the Bride knows what the colors should be. A problem I ran into very early on is that Brides would look at images either on their computer or prints made at Costco and sometimes the colors were way off. It's easy for them to think it's me. Now, they know that it's Costco that screwed up, not me.

One huge difference these days is that big albums and re-orders are history in many areas. My Brides rarely want a finished album at all and re-orders are non existant. Get your full profit up front in your time charge, then what they do with the images is less important. Trying to police your copyright is a nightmare - just my opinion.
