Church or Organization Photo Directory Software

Does anyone know of a good program to design church directories (or the like) that will automatically insert the photos on the pages alphabetically?

I know Marathon does but you have to have the directory printed through them. I have a Phaser printer that I can use for small directories with a limited qty. that is far less expensive to print than Marathon.

Thanks,

Mark

Adobe Pagemaker is the best for this or you can also use MS Publisher. I've done church directories with Pagemaker and it's still available for a decent price. You can do it on InDesign but you need the Pagemaker plug-in for automated page layout. No real advantage of InDesign at all.

I've seen ads for this product from Communication Resources (as a pastor I get lots of these things) and it seems pretty interesting: Welcome to Communication Resources Online Store!

I've considered using it for my own church directory but in the end had an outside company (Lifetouch) do it for us. In the future I might try this product or another similar one. A quick Google search for "church directory software" pulled up a few things.

Marathon Press does church directories and their software is free ($60 deposit refunded with first order)

I would suggest asking if someone in your congregation has the software (Pagemaker, Publisher, InDesign etc.) and can design it for you. That way you have complete control over the design (assuming companies that do this sort of thing use premade templates).

Then just outsource the printing once your design is complete.

Having used InDesign primarily as my design tool for 8+ years now I can say there's no other tool I would use for a job like this. It's flexibility is second to nothing that I know of.

If the job involves being sent to an offset printer, please do not use MS Publisher.

Re: Church or Organization Photo Directory Software

I ended up using Instant Church Directory which was one of the most intuitive, easy to use programs ever. Larry Becker recommended it above. It can be found at: Welcome to Communication Resources Online Store!
