First wedding album. Need feedback

Hi everyone,

I'm relatively new to wedding photography and felt I needed an album to show prospective clients. This is my first design. It's meant as a marketing piece and not an actual album. My challenge is that I've only done three weddings from preparation to reception, and two weddings for only the ceremony and family portraits, so I have a somewhat limited library of images to work with. My goal is to come up with an album design that hi lights my best images as well as my album design skills. I'm using images from various weddings in the same album so I can show my best shots overall.

I could use some feedback as to how successful or unsuccessful I've been with this design. The design is for Asuka, so there's special attention paid to the gutter. I'm planning on doing fewer pages that are slightly revised for a flush mount book as well.

The pages can be found at:

EX_L_Adobe_10x10_80

I'm used to critiques, so feel free to be honest in your assessment. It's the best way for me to learn.

Thanks,
Steven Rosen

Steven,

There's a lot to be proud of there! Very nice work...you're well ahead of the curve, for having shot only three weddings. The images themselves are fine, and the page layouts are creative.

If I have any constructive advice to offer, it would be to take care to line up your images; there are some pages where it looks like you wantedto line up the tops of the images, but didn't quite manage. If you're doing it in Photoshop, you can always add guides, which will make the task easy.

My second comment is that an 80-page book might be too much material. I have three AsukaBook demos - one 20-page book and two 40's. I notice that people seem to get bored or something when looking through the 40's. They just need an idea of what the books and the page layouts look like.

Finally, you might consider doing more full-page images, particularly as you're using the book as a marketing piece. They really make an impact, and some of my favorite pages in your layout are the ones with very large images (and smaller ones strategically placed on top)...

Again - very nice work!

Very nice.

Is it just me, or does anyone else have trouble viewing the index page? The only image I see on the index page is the last image, the rest are blank. I can view all the images by clicking on the last image and paging backwards through the images.

Thanks for the feedback. I was considering showing my best images mounted in a presentation box when I speak with a potential client. The album would be brought out after the individual images are shown. This is a 60 page book, but perhaps I should do two or three 20 page books instead. What do you show potential clients? Prints, albums, or both.

Good Looking images. You're have the technique now get the business. I totally agree that you don't need to show everything you have in one book. When I started out I had one bridal album, one parents album and a couple of 11x14 with easel backs. Of course, in those days, we had to travel to the bride and grooms-to-be to show our talent.

Which ever way you do, be proud of your work!

And good luck to you.
