Re: saying hello to start my membership

Greetings,

I am not a wedding photographer, but am curious, since a student of mine just was asked to do a Nob Hill Wedding in San Francisco (Nob Hill is an elegant part of town) and didn't have a clue what to charge, etc. Fortunately they are good acquaintances of his and the photos were great. But we still don't have a clue to price and other relationships within the industry.

So this discussion group interests me.....if i finally can get used to the new format.

Hi Mark,

To get you started you might want to check out this thread on pricing.

Bear in mind that most folks here are professionals, not weekend warriors. Though there is nothing inherently wrong with being a weekend warrior, of course.

Thanks for the reply and point taken.

However, though retired, I am a seasoned professional who worked with the best for the best, going back to when most here were not yet born, as www.anstendig.com will show. The section on focusing of lenses at www.anstendig.com also shows another field of my expertise, when I worked with the inventor of the only focusing device that has ever claimed "focal point exact focusing precision" and, as to be expected, was never brought out by the industry, but was copied in every through-the-lens auto-focusing device after the inventor's death in 1970. Important reading, I might add, for anyone who really understands the problems of focusing and especially for those who do not.

Ron, who is my student, has been my student for 35 years and is no spring chcken, either. Rpon has the best "eye" I have ever met. He simply has what is usually referred to a "gift".

The people who asked him to do their very expensive, though private, wedding could easily afford anyone they wanted. They asked him because they knew no one better.

Anyway, now I am better introduced and I look forward to reading your stuff, as weddings are a complex side of photography that I never bothered with and would like to know about.

One question, I love your photo/avatar. How does one add a photo to one's posts. I tried a few times in the past, but didn't get it right.

Thanks again

Mark

Hi Mark,

Quite a lot of great experience. Glad to have you as a member.

You may add an avatar by clicking on the "user cp" link in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Inside here on the left side you will find many options to edit your account. Click on the "edit avatar" link and then choose custom avatar and browse to your avatar image on your computer. Your avatar needs to be 80 pixels wide x 80 pixels high and less than 200k. You should be able to use jpeg or gif files.

Please let me know if you have any further problems adding your avatar.

Drew

Re: saying hello to start my membership

Well, I followed instructions and chose to upload a file i just made in PS CS2 that is 80 x 80 Pixels and 18.8 K and saved in Jpeg level 4.

It failed (that was the message I got).

Oh well.

I suppose I have lived almost 70 years without it and will survive without an avatar photo.

Re: saying hello to start my membership

Well, Joke's on me.

There it is!

I think I clicked once too many, after it was already up.

Anyway, I love it! My first avatar!

Re: Introductions and Avatars

It really is a little dour, isn't it.

I have to ask Ron to take some new, livelier ones.

Ever best,

This is fun.
