Hello from the Grosse Pointe Blank region of Detroit

Hello everyone, that is everyone that would read this anyway! Just a quicky intro, the names Keith and I've been a photoholic going on 40 years now! I caught the bug from my father who use to take photos on a novice level but had his own dark room and taught me to use my instincts. Kind of wished I got into it a little more durning my stint in the Coast Guard. Man, the things I saw! Kind of making up for lost time in my pursuit of "That" shot. You know the one... that one shot where you can say to yourself "WOW, I can die now knowing I've acomplished something". Still looking but I know I get there sometime. In the mean time, I'll be here picking your brains for tips on how to get more out of myself and hopefully pass on a few pointers that I've discovered myself. Hope to speak with you soon.

Welcome to the forums.

Interesting concept you have about getting "the one." I don't suppose I have ever really looked at it that way. It seems like I get a shot or two from most weddings that really tell the story of the whole day. But, if you were to take them all together and try to say which one was the best, I'm not sure you could. To me they all have more meaning in context. Plus, people seem to vary a lot on what they perceive as good. I have been quite surprised by some of the results of the photo contests we have every month.

I guess the same goes for art. If you look at Guernica by Picasso out of context it just looks like a bunch of funky shapes.

Anyway, welcome again and hope you enjoy your time here.
