whitelightning battery

Has anyone used the White-Lightning battery? If so do you think it would work with other monolights other than White-Lightning?

Re: whitelightning battery

The battery is just a 12-volt rechargeable (lead-acid) battery. The systems include one or two 150Watt inverters to convert that to 120VAC.

You could use any inverter with any big 12V lead-acid battery (including a regular boat or car battery - but better is a deep cycle battery), but you'd need to make sure that the inverter could meet the minimum current draw of your monolights. Actually a 150W inverter like they use is very small. Apparently the White Lightnings are willing to work with very low recycling currents (which other monolights might not be) and the inverters are protected against overcurrent draws. I would want a much bigger inverter, if possible - which would also lead to much faster recycling times.

By the way, those inverters look exactly like these:

I have one of their battery packs, and you certainly could 'roll your own' as that seems to be what they did. The only thing I would add to the above comments is to make sure any inverter you get is a 'True Sine Wave' inverter, as the much cheaper and more common 'Square Wave' inverters won't cut it. I have a 400 watt inverter I got at costco to keep in my truck and the strobe won't respond to it at all, the inverter and the light both sound a warning when I turn it on... Once you price out true sine wave inverters you'll see that they aren't over charging as much as it first appears.
