Re: Full or part time photography?

That is amusing in a morbid sort of way. But how do your brides react upon hearing this "benefit" that you offer?

Re: Full or part time photography?

As long as I don't charge extra for working the crime scene they are happy with it! I'm guessing that it will only be a matter of time before some bride, kills her mother - in- law...lol
So far they have waited until after the honeymoon.

Jim
Also, homicide victims and some suspects are actually easier to work with than some mother-in-laws!

The Master Photographers Association ........ they only accept full time photographers and insist on applicant seeking quals within six months,

[/ QUOTE ]

That has changed recently David and they will now accept applications from part time photographers. I believe this was due to pressure because of falling membership due to the phenomenal growth rate of the SWPP.

Re: Full or part time photography?

I hve recently gone full time, and it does make a difference. I was in real estate sales for 5 years, some of that part time some full. There is a definite difference in attitude between part time and full time.

when you lively hood depends on it deadlines mean more, customer service means more, professional organizations and education mean more.

Hi Carol, while this is true, part-time photographers may now join the MPA, they will be "affiliate" members with no right to use 'letters' or the MPA logo until they qualify.

Yes, but once qualified, they can then use their qualification letters, whether full or part time. This is really no different than previously when you had no right to display and qualifying letters until you had actually submitted your panel of prints.

What irks me is the statement on the front of the MPA's website:-

[ QUOTE ]
Welcome to the MPA

The United Kingdom's premier fully qualified organisation for practising full time professional photographers.

[/ QUOTE ]

I have written to them about this, but still they insist on displaying this - which is plainly against the law (Trade Descriptions Act et al).

Re: Full or part time photography?

Cant be sure, but one of the conditions of affiliate membership was that qualification was to be sought within a certain length of time, don't know whether you still didn't have to be full time or not, when that qualification panel was submitted.

The way I read the proposal (which was passed) was that anyone could join the MPA as long as they said their intention was to "eventually" become full time, plus of course, they stumped up the membership fee.

One things for sure, the exact details of this accepted proposal are very vague (or very well hidden).

To make it simple, as far as I am concerned, if you want to join the MPA, you just fill the form in and send off your money, your current occupational status doesn't seem to be an issue.
