over 18 nude photography

hi, I got a call about doing nude photography for a guy who sells the images to magazines. All I am going to say is the shot wont all be arty nudes. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on the subject or direct me to a website with guideline or even rules regarding this.
thanks

Your own conscience is the best guide for this, the fact that you have taken time to seek advice suggests that you are not comfortable with the idea.
You are gambling with your reputation in my opinion.

Laura

I assume that being on this forum you are a wedding photographer. Do not touch this sort of work with a bargepole,
It will kill your wedding business.

Wrong side of the pond, old lad, while Carol, you, a pair of Scotts and I might know what a barge pole is, we might very well be on us own as Hilda would have said.

But you are so right, naughty pictures could be the death knoll for a wedding photographer.

Laura,

I looked at your profile, and your registered domain seems to say you are going to be photographing children.
If that is correct, what could this ONE assignment possibly do to your portrait business?
It's one thing if you have a bride, or any adult female, asking you to do a tasteful nude for her personal use, but for this type of assignment, I think Mike gave you some good advise.

Re: over 18 nude photography

early in my career (after a couple of truly scary "i'll take it cuz i need the money" shoots) my wife and i made a deal regarding these types of shoots: nudity is cool, but the line is drawn at 'no sexual acts'. as long as i stay within these parameters we both feel good about it and i enjoy an occasional shoot on the wild side.

consider and define *your* comfort zone and stick to it - if your subject doesn't bother you, don't let it. you may just find it to be a nice break from your more clothed, oops, i mean 'conservative' shoots.

to keep your business respectable in the eyes of other clients you may want to consider specifying no photo credits be given on the nude photos in print and keep the images off your site. as long as you are discreet and don't hang a 20x30" wall portrait of a pornographic image in your studio, i don't know how another client would ever find out.

just my opinion....which is why we're all here anyway, right???

Re: over 18 nude photography

I think with this kind of thing you have to be careful, if you are a wedding photographer in one sense mike is right - stay away however you could always take the photos and be selective of how you advertise them to your clients afterwards.
Someone mentioned children this is a big NO however carefully done you get a name for things like that even if its not true, people jump to conclutions.
I think doing something like a nude shoot can always be put down as good experience even if its a disaster. You learn a lot about yourself as a photographer doing something like that. I'd give it a go just be selective of who you show them to afterwards.
