I have to say it's been interesting doing the gay weddings over the last couple of years. Up until recently, it's been pretty quiet, with probably less than 5 same sex weddings a year for me. This year, it's taken a steep upswing, which I chaulk up to simply that it takes a couple of years to decide to get married and plan it out.
It's been mostly female couples, and probably the most striking part of it is that most of the couples have been together for at least 10 years, and some have been together for 20 or 30 years. The last couple I photographed had been together for 32 years, were both in their 60's, and both were grandmothers.
All the same sex weddings I've done have been very low key affairs. I found that the first question that I was getting was 'are you comfortable with a gay wedding?', so I put a page up on my web site with a rainbow flag, and little flash show of some of the gay weddings that I've done. The other point I make is not to make an issue of the gay part of the wedding, as my job is just to take the pictures, not get into political discussions (although I do find the entire thing facinating).
