C-41 process and T-max film?????

I shot a roll of T-max yesterday for my niece and told her to take it to our b&w lab for processing... She took it to walmart (ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh) and they processed it in C-41 and the roll came out blank. Has anyone cross-processed Black and white film before???? My last blank roll of film was in 1987 because the leader didn't advance the film and I quickly learned to thread the takeup spool, advance the film, then close the back and shoot. I know it has to be processed D76 to get the right results...

Re: C-41 process and T-max film?????

Apples and Oranges, I'm afraid. C-41 is about developing colour dyes, while D-76(or which ever developer you use) is about developing silver halide.

I'm not surprised they ran the roll without checking. There's a whole generation of photographers and lab techs now who have never seen a real roll of B&W film. I just dismantled my darkroom. It was a sad day when I cut up my 6 foot long custom made darkroom sink and took it to the dump.

Re: C-41 process and T-max film?????

I agree about the grief: I had a 5x4 zone VI, 5x7 Durst, and a M800 Durst, and sold the lot, and closed down my darkroom after not using it for three years. All those years of learning how to do it, and then finding that the digital camera did it all for you (and for lots of others without any knowledge too...). Two weeks later a client wanted 1000 prints and insisted on Bromides (digital not allowed..). My timing has always been bad.

Re: C-41 process and T-max film?????

Ron,

I guess I am lost here. Are you asking if you can reprocess the B&W roll in D76, etc...? Or are you asking if anyone had the unforunate experience of processing a regular roll or B&W in C-41? Cross-processing for the most part deals with processing E-6 film (Chromes) in a C-41 process, not B&W through a color process.

She had the B&W film processed in C-41 and it came out blank.... I know your not suppose to do it but she did, then she called me and griped because she had no pictures on the film... What I want to know is if anyone has ever had this mistake happen and what was the result.

Re: C-41 process and T-max film?????

I've never had that happen to me, but I can tell you that the result would be that you would have a roll of film that would be completely blank. Once it's been fixed, there's nothing you can do to it. You might try carping on the lab for running the film through the C-41 process in the first place, but the best you could hope for would be a new roll of film.
