Re: Asuka Wedding Books

[ QUOTE ]
Ed,

Thanks for that, very good info.

Asuka were great in responding to some q's we had about correct procedure, etc .... we are awaiting a 60 page EX range sample product with a mix of colour/mono/tints so I'm very keen to get a feel of the quality. I chose the gloss finish initially because I find that's favoured in most cases - I find matte seems to be a trade favourite, but gloss is liked better by the client(s).

Regarding calibration, our Apple display's are pretty much accurate, as far as you can ever tell. So all in all your info would indicate Asuka are a great choice ..... phew!

In your opinion, does the feel and look of the finished page compare well to a commercial bookstore product? I am inclined to think it will, but hearing somebody's experience of purchase is always better than a hunch!

Regards,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Your apple displays should fit the bill no problem. The look and feel are very "contemporary". When I first saw & felt the gloss page I knew it would stand up to many a "page turning". Like I said before, I am not a gloss fan (luster is my finish) but it is the only choice for popping color and page duribility. As for commercial comparison, well that's what it is in my understanding. No differerent. I think it's printed on a Heidelburg press...

That said, we just came off of a 2 day bridal fair and the brides really liked the book! That's good news because it costs quite a bit less than a flush mount!!! And, it is an "upgrade" for most of our packages (as is a flush). It's all about keeping ahead of the curve. A few other studios had a similar book but in the end, our designs ran circles around theirs which really is what it's all about. I think we will all be happy with Asuka if they keep up their customer service, great turnaround time, fantistic price (most importantly) and their accurate printing (most most importantly). Big thumbs up for now for Asuka

Sweet, we've been considering adding them to our offerings and it looks liek we're going to design an album to test them out. At Imaging USA where we were launching our own service, we saw their samples and they were certainly very impressive.

Do you find that the glossy pages pick up fingerprints easily? That would be my only concern. I forget what the other option is called, not the matte... but more like a regular coffee-table book page. I think it's called varnish or something. Any commments on it?

Re: Asuka Wedding Books

Hi there,

Personally, I don't find that fingerprints or marks affect the gloss finish that badly. It's obviously personal pref, but the gloss (for me) gives a depth and feel to digital files which sometimes appear flat without the right tweeks in CS. So I stick to it because it shows off the images in a great style.

I've actually just taken delivery of my latest Asuka product and my wife, who's a magazine designer, took it onto her office to show some of her colleagues. Feedback was great, and can you think of a harder crowd to please than an office full of female art staff?

No, me neither!

All the best,

Mark

Re: Asuka Wedding Books

No, we use the "high gloss" and the pages do not retain fingerprints any more than a regular RA print or magazine page. The pages, while they can be ripped with some effort, are very durable. The book is like any wedding album with respect to being carefull and using common sense. Treat it with respect and it will last a lifetime. We did another bridal fair at the Mohegan Sun Casino with an overwhelming response to these albums.

Re: Asuka Wedding Books

Has anyone found whether it's possible to use Yervant's Page Gallery software in place of the Asuka templates?

Why not just email and ask them (Asuka)?
