How much do you charge for travel??

Hi all,

Up until now I've covered local weddings in the South East but as my business is growing i'm receiving more and more interest for weddings around the country.

So far, as travel hasn't been a concern i've just charged the cost (petrol/train tickets)

However, with longer distance journeys this doesn't really work out. How much do you charge per mile? If you have to stay overnight how do you charge for that??

It's all well and good getting a booking but if it's a distance away it precludes me from booking a wedding the next day.

Would appreciate some advice from any UK wedding photogs out there

Cheers

Dan

Re: How much do you charge for travel??

Hi Dan,

Although not in the UK, as a member of the BIPP I learned a lot from the UKmembers.
We charge 0.40 eurocents per km extra to cover for petrol ect.Ofcourse any other travelexpenses and cost for hotels are charged to the customer.
We have done some international weddings(Italy,Las Vegas,Spain,Greece) and we didn't get any remarks about the travellingcosts.

Hope to have been helpfull

Rich

Cheers for that Rich,

When you've travelled overseas and had to stay overnight how do you charge. I realise that the client picks up the expense but above that do you charge for the extra time or do you charge your normal wedding day rate?

Re: How much do you charge for travel??

Depends on the assignment. In the Netherlands there are not many photographers who travel abroad for weddings and prices here are, compared to what I've read on this topic Uh, guys...Why are prices going down? in the wedding and portraitforum, pretty low.
We are in the higher segment of the market with an average of between the 1500 and 2700 euro(ex the travelling), which is pretty good. 3k to 6k figures I almost never hear of, maybe we are to modest.
Normally I don't charge the extra days, I will take my wife with me and we add a couple of days for ourselves.
We have seen a lot of beautiful places this way.

Regards

Rich
