Child Portrait clothing question

I've received a bunch of requests to do child portraits, both informal and formal, from co-workers, friends and need some advise please.

With the request or booking I always get the same question, from mommy after mommy. What should their child wear?

I plan to shoot the informal shots in a local botanical garden, lots of paths, ponds and reflecting pools, brick walls, iron gates, grassy areas, you name it, it has it. But while I've given the standard line most of the time, nothing too loud, nothing too dark, make it comfortable standard fair, I'm wondering (no I'm sure) I'm missing something.

SO, can anyone offer some advise on this, what you tell parents at booking, maybe a quide you've put togeather, or if all else fails, direct me to a website.

Thanks in advance

Sam
