Slideshows on DVD

Hi everyone

I've recently purchased Roxio Esy Creator 7 primarily to produce slideshows on DVD.

How are you preparing images for use in slideshows? I've been slightly disappointed with levels of sharpness when viewing my productions. Are you preparing images as if they were for the web, ie 72 ppi with quite high sharpening, or just using your normal prepare for print workflow? Does the size of the image have an impact?

Any ideas and feedback gratefully rec'd as always.

Jez

Re: Slideshows on DVD

I would definately recommend sizing the images in Photoshop to fit the 720x480 pixel (PAL is slightly different, but I'm not sure what it is) video window. The less sharpening the better is a good rule for almost everything, but especially on DVD slide shows.

PPI has no bearing on the Web. Only Resolution counts. Nontheless Nothing wrong setting it to 72 ppi.

Since the Web is colorblind you should set the Color Space to sRGB. In PS go to Image-Mode- Convert to profile.

The size in Pixels is important, but it depends on the size of monitor your clients will use.

Yes size has an impact and it is important how you are resizing. In PS use Bicubic Sharper.

15 inchers usually have a native resolution of 1024x768 (Aspect Rstio 1:1.33 this I would recommend, but if your camera has a different aspect ratio this will not work nicely. In this case you should crop or use Automate-Fit Image.
Apply sharpening with Unsharpmask set to: Amount 110, Radius 0.3, Threshold 0. and use Save for Web in PS set to Jpg High 60 with Optimized checked.

Re: Slideshows on DVD

What is the best dimension (ie. 720x480) and ppi for viewing the DVD on a regular TV rather than computer?
