How do you carry your gear?

I ask this question to other wedding photographers, specifically to photojournalistic wedding photographers.

I have found it increasingly difficult to haul around my bag everywhere and find I'm wearing a waist pack more and more to carry some of the items I may need while wondering about and have thought a modular belt system may work best.

What are your thoughts on using the modular belt system for weddings? Anyone have experience with the LowePro Street & Field or the Kenesis gear? Thank you.

Re: How do you carry your gear?

i have the lowepro street and field belt. i like it. it let's me easily carry quantum battery packs, and lens bags and my little holder for flash cards. it's worth the investment.

i also use a rolling bag to bring my equipment to the job, with my stands and tripod strapped onto it.

I use a Kinesis system. It works great. Good back support and I especially love having a water bottle!

I use a shoulder bag, but make sure that I have the a camera with the heaviest lens, in my case the 80-200, on the opposite side to the bag. That way it spreads the weight out evenly.

I also use the Kenisis system...especially like the added padded suspenders to the belt. Great pouches...system is very well made. Also I use aluminum hard cases from Harbor Frieght. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=36871 extremely affordable.

I use a black Domke f2 shoulder bag for weddings. This carried over from my 14 years in newspaper work. I used a Tenba hip pack early on, but gravitated back to the shoulder bag. The Kinesis looks good for sports.

Re: How do you carry your gear?

I am tending to hang everthing off my belt these days. I too take a bag with all the backup things and other stuff I will use only at different parts of the wedding but I could pretty much do most of the wedding with what I carry on me. So far my system has been a variety of bum bags and assorted pouches sourced from different bargain shops and camera store sale bins which have all matched up nicely I'm afraid like many things, " photographic" pouches and bags tend to be too over priced for me especially when almost identical pouches can be had from bag shops etc at a fraction of the price.

The only thing with belt systems is they can be uncomfortable to wear when your in and out of the car so something that is easy to get on and off and dosen't twist is best. Also look for a wide padded belt if you are going to be carrying extra lenses as the weight can make thin belts cut in.
