Which to buy for weddings D2h Or D100

Here is my dilema, i shoot mostly weddings, and had the original D1, i sold it due to the fact that i could not deal with all the magenta shifts, i still shoot with my F5 and F100, i am looking to get another digital camera and maybe go all digital as the cams and programs have gotten better, which of the 2 cams D2h or D100, for weddings and model shoots, i will still be having a film cam most likely my F5 as a second cam for security reasons, and also where in NYC can i drop off a wedding CD from digital and get superb prints lets say 4X6 or 5X7, to put into clients albums...any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Why not try an S2 Pro? Good reviews and ratings, cheaper than a D2h and better than a D100. There are some pros/cons of the battery system on the S2 but I have never had any problems. You could modify an MB16 for use on the S2.

Re: Which to buy for weddings D2h Or D100

I have the D2H and I love the camera but for flash I am greatly disappointed. It is just terrible and it doesn’t work. I have to set the camera to manual to avoid the yellow cast even in direct sunlight! I love Nikon but my friends Cannon 10D and his 550EX blows the SB800 out of the water. His images look much better. Look at the S2 or even the Kodak 14N I have no idea about the D100 but I can tell you this and that the F5 and SB28 blow the D2H away when it comes to proper flash out put and consistency.

With teh D2H either the images are underexposed so you cannot use TTL with any auto setting. A or S forget abotu it. With the D1H this was never an issue. I do not know what Nikon did but I really wish they would put te D1H flash technology back into the D2H. Make sure if you do go the D2H route set the camera to manual and fill in. This is the only way I get get decent results. I am really dissapointed with this cameras flash compared to the others; D1H; F5; F100.

Re: Which to buy for weddings D2h Or D100

Ivan,

I know what it's like to be invested in a system and naturally wanting to use the existing lenses....But, I have been a Nikon user for 25 years and their film cameras have been great. But for digital, I originally bought the D1-X and although it did a lot of things well. The canon system completely blows it away. I've e-bayed some of my back-up Nikon stuff and recently bought the Canon Mark 2. The image quality, color balance and fill flash on the Canon is far superior to Nikon. You know today you don't need as many lenses as you used to. The quality of zoom lenses has greatly improved over the years, so switching to another system isn't as painful as it once was back when if you wanted quality optics, you needed fixed focal lengths. Although I still have my D1-X as a back-up until I replace it too, it's hard to go back to the nikon. Check out the Canons before you invest in the Nikon.

Good luck on your decision,

Mike....(ex-Nikon user)

Re: Which to buy for weddings D2h Or D100

I shoot an F100 and an F80 for weddings and also have a D100 for private use.

I don't think I could use the D100 for weddings due to the auto focus being so slow and bad in low light. I'd buy a D70 over the D100 anyway. I, personally, wouldn't get an S2 because of the same auto focus problems.

I only shoot in RAW and edit in Capture 4.1, which is a whole lot faster than dealing with JPEGs. So I don't care that much about white balance issues, although I suspect the D2H with the SB-800 does pretty well in auto.

So, I would definitly get the D2H and shoot in RAW and edit in Capture. That is my personal choice, though. I love the feel of the camera and the RAW files look sooo much like good film to me, much better than the D100. Actually the D70 files look fantastic too. But I don't think I could sell myself for a high price with an amateur camera.

Good luck in your choice.

Andrew
