Re: Bodybuilding

Gene,
so if i purchase a press pass, am I then able to sell the contest photos back to the competitors? I'm almost looking for a more event coverage type of thing for the smaller state level competitions. I combed the web site and didn't locate anything other than the official policy that you have to be sanctioned by a known publisher - no mention of purchasing a pass.

thanks1
Mark

Re: Bodybuilding

Mark, I'd contact the individual promoters. I've found that things vary quite widely from show to show. Let me know what you find out.

Thanks,
gene

Re: Bodybuilding

Gene,
Not a thing! Argh, I'm still looking for the secret password to get a response from the promoters. I've run into a few people who "have our own photographer" for other events and this may be one of those things. Unfortunately those "house photogs" are almost never even remotely good. I just did a fashion show where the main photographer - the guy brought by the production company - shot with a coolpix and no aparent sense of lighting, composition or anything else beyond pushing a button. The models, stylists and designers went ga ga over my shots, the promoter is sticking with their guy....such is life I guess.
If you ever find yourself planning a fitness event where you want to set up a mobile studio for the competitors and need another shooter I'm game.

Re: Bodybuilding

Unfortunately as in many cases (events in general), people are more concerned about cost and go for the cheapest photographers. You just have to find people who want quality - unfortunately it's often after a bad experience that they learn their lessons - in wedding photography, I guess since the divorce rate is 50%+ that's a good thing in case someone skimps on their first wedding.
