Re: Wedding Albums - Art Leather vs. Other Suppliers

Dear Friends!

I am grateful indeed for all of your input and especially for the suggestions on the excellent alternatives to the Art Leather mafia. It is very important for me as I am still at the begining stage of my business and would hate to cause any delays to my new customers. Speaking of which, I have a customer who would like to order Montage Book i.e. printed magazine style wedding album. I have a graphic designer to work with and now I am afraid to go through Art Leather. Any suggestions on who to use for printing of such albums?
Thank you again.

Cheers,

Bartek

I have an excellent company that I deal with in Vancouver, Canada. They are called Bon Match Albums , and the guy to talk to is tony@bonmatch.com. All the books are leather covered and library bound, and they take care of all the printing for you. All you do is send them the image files, and they will send you back a finished album. You can either send them raw files, and they will do a design for you, or you send them the finished design in Photoshop and they'll run that for you. Tony's from Korea and his English isn't that great, but don't let that put you off. The prices are very reasonable, a 30 side 11x14 inch album is $675.00 Canadian dollars (about $500.00 USD), so I don't think you can beat that.

Thank you Dave. That sound really good. We'll be in touch with them. I have one more question to everyone. Since we are trying to free ourselves from Art Leather we don't want to get their album software. Do any of you know if any of those companies you suggested offer their own album design software, i.e. you predesign and album, send it preprinted to the customer, they pencil in corrections they want, we put them back int the design, and spit out the final list of images to be printed , mats and covers to be ordered, etc. ?
Great thanks.

I like to do it myself in Photoshop. All you need to do is create an image document for the page size you need, say 11x14 inches, then drag on the images in layers, and there you go. Once you get the hang of it, it's dead easy. Have a look around at some designs, see what you like, and go from there.

If you're really lazy, send Bon Match the images on a disk, and they have an in-house designer who will do the whole thing for you. They will e-mail you the comp for approval, and then you're off.

Re: Wedding Albums - Art Leather vs. Other Suppliers

I used Art Leather exclusively during the first three years of my business. A.L. chose not to have my business 10 years ago due to a policy then that the all orders had to go throught the area rep, whose customer service was as poor as that from corporate. Ordering was complicated, and I ocassionally got the wrong product, or incomplete shipments for an album assembly.

However, I have continued to use their album software to design albums and present them to clients. I have used Leather Craftsmen for the past 10 years. They create a beautiful product and are a pleasure to do business with.

Dave,

My fault, I wasn't very specific. I meant design software for the traditional albums with mats and normal photos, not the Montage style thing printed in the printery. So, what I meant to ask about was if you know of any software other than Art Leather, that would do all or some of the following:
- predesign a traditional albums using the company specific mats, and cover
- lets you print the predesign on regular paper for approval
- lets you make the make any changes that come back from the customer
- last but not least spits out the list of photographs to order from the lab by name and size, and another also generates the order to the album company with the list of all mats, cover, and specific cover design, etc.

Now, I know I am asking a lot, but you never know :-)

Thank you,

Bartek

Photo Junction software, hands down. I haven't used it myself, but I know a few people who do, and they love it.
