D1x/760

I'm a portrait/wedding shooter about to make the plunge into the first digital. I am closing in on the D1x or the 760. I like the software for 760 yet the size is a little of a drawback. I want to use it for seniors, sports, weddings and business photos.

Also, is it just me or is it just the dx1 people complaining about dust problems. Thanks for any help.

Re: D1x/760

I think the issue of dust relates to how close it is to the actual image sensor. Dust doesn't easily gather on the sensor, it gathers on the AA/IR filter in front of it. Since the D1x has the filter right on the sensor, dust is very noticeable, while the 760 has the filter at the lens mount so it's not a common problem.

You're right that the 760 is a beast, but that wouldn't be a problem in a studio, would it? Its frame rate might be inadequate for sports, though.

What about the +/- compisation on the 760 vs. the d1x whitch does not give you that option or does it in the new software?

Re: D1x/760

i can only speak on the 760...you will not be sorry you bought it. for all the reasons you are talking about...from the control you have with the images in the software...to the almost effortless color control. The images give you a more "film" look then i think you will get with the d1x. And anytime Kodak comes with software and firmware upgrades they are on the web to download free.I am finding myself shooting my 620 for a lot of jobs ...the 760 is overkill for many small jobs. I really like the combination of the 760-620 for weddings. the 620 works great for candid "photojounalist" style shots. Stop thinking about it and buy it .....you won't be sorry.

Re: D1x/760

When the D1X and the 760 first came on the market the local dealer let me borrow a D1X over a couple weekends and borrow a 660 over a couple weekends. (The 760's had just started shipping and he didn't have one yet.)

I own a portrait studio and was able to test each camera to see how it would work for the type of photography I do.

After tests in and out of the studio, I bought the 760. I found the color and detail of that Kodak imager to be better. In fact I then bought a second one. My poor Hasselblads are gathering dust and cobwebs, and the RB67's are about to become geranium planters.

Re: D1x/760

Hi Thats great info What about Shooting @400. Is the noise better then it was once reported using the newer software. I shoot alot now with film @ 400 due to the area I photograph in. Any thoughts? I hear "Just make sure you shoot @ 80 or so and then you will be fine". Whats that?

Re: D1x/760

The 760 is very bad above 200asa. The D1x wins in the upper asa match.
