Superb, thanks for sharing it. Easily bests anything I've seen on this forum.

Re: My daughters Prom...

>> What you refer to is 'poise and grace' not many girls have it natually. But mine does which makes her very easy to photograph more naturally. I find about 1-2 out of 100 senior age girls have it.

This statement bothers me a little, and I think demonstrates a strong underestimation of our clients. Seniors, and any subject for that matter, do not live in a vacuum. Excessive arrogance and attitude on the part of a photographer may simply serve to indimidate a subject so greatly to the extent that any natural poise and grace would be inhibited. Subjects DO depend on us to help them look their best, and they DON'T always understand the ins and outs of what we do, how we do it, or the results we achieve. Are we doing our clients any favors by assuming that there is only a 1-2% chance that they are fools, possessing no natural grace of their own, helpless without our masterfulness? I don't intend to tell someone else how to run their successful business. But I cannot help but question such disparaging remarks, and wonder if what is declared a "good bit of arrogance" isn't really an unsettling amount of narcissim.

I am way out of my element here, but your discussion posed a question in my mind:

If you are using digital, do you ever bring the client around to the back of the camera to see what they look like? To point out where their hand may look better placed and why?

Just curious.

Re: My daughters Prom...

Once people figure out that I can see the image, they want to see it too. At that point the cat is out of the bag, and they get disappointed when I tell them they can't see it. The big problem is that people will leave their pose to run up to the camera.

I solved that problem by plugging my camera (D30) into a big TV (for location shoots I carry a small 14" TV). That works pretty well unless the subject has taken off their glasses.

I find that this helps things go much faster because it's easier to show subjects what's wrong with their pose than to tell them. Also, it reassures them that a pose they may not be comfortable with actually does look good. It's almost a necessity for shooting kids, because even those who insist on hiding their head from the camera will pose when they find out they'll get on TV.

Re: My daughters Prom...

emocmo and Gabe, Thanks for bringing this discussion back onto the rails but earlier posts have become too personal in nature and the discussion seems doomed to deteriorate rapidly so I'm closing the topic. Mike
