Re: My daughters Prom...

I think you should get signed permission to use client images. What if that girl in black happens to see the post and doesn't like that her legs look larger than in a normal perspective view? I've heard some sad stories about portrait guys getting sued when a client feels they've been "held up to public ridicule." I don't think they even have to prove that there is anything wrong with the photo.

>Not sure what you mean by permission to >post in the forum. It's my image. I own >it.

That may be true, but its an image of a person who has a say so in what you do with it. I'm not saying it shouldn't be posted in this forum to share with others in the industry, but I don't think you can claim the right to do what ever you like with it.

>Funny thing, my son only listens to >Christian rock music.

>I dunno where he got that idea.

God?

Smart kid, sounds a lot like my daughter. I also like to listen to Christian Rock music, so I do know where she gets its.

By the way, I bet your son is a tad more humble than dear old dad

Re: My daughters Prom...

The girl wouldn't be unhappy to find the image here. That's my point. I've never gotten a release from anyone to use their likeness - they are my images and legally we need their permission, but my clients become my friends and no one has ever objected.

I display 30x40 prints in my windows and never ask for permission. Everyone is always thrilled to be in the window, on display in the studio or used in the brochure.

As to her legs being out of perspective, they are not. I used a 150mm lens and this is how her legs were. She wouldn't be unhappy because she loved the image and orderd a ton of pictures from it.

Dig-my son may be more humble, but is not near as talented. ; P

I almost feel like I'm on trial here -
I'll share somewhere else.

Re: My daughters Prom...

I used to worry about usage of clients images, do I need a release to put them on my website etc? But after recieving a few words of advice from Ron and others on this forum I was able to relax about the whole thing, I ask clients if they object to my using their photos for self promotion and display, no one yet has refused, and if they did object I'd remove their image from my site or wherever. I daresay if the clients involved were celebrities or professional models then the situation would be different - a release would be expected, but for seniors and family portraits etc anything other than an informal agreement seems a bit paranoid to me. I think mosts courts of law would still give common sense some weight where such matters are concerned.
Ron - dont you go doing a disappearing act again! Your posts and work are an invaluable source of inspiration and information for newbies like myself and others, and her legs look just fine to me

Ron... don't post somewhere else. You're very welcomed here. I personally greatly admire your work and soak in very bit of your advice.

PS- You're son has good taste in music! It sounds like you're doing an excellent job at raising you kids. A very tough task to do these days.

Re: My daughters Prom...

Hey Daniel,
Whenever I see someone critique a picture posted here I always like to see some of their work so I have a reference point. I looked on your website and couldn't find any portraits. I don't get your legs out of perspective comment. Care to exlain that.
Glen
