I was wondering if there are any resources for comparing monolights and other strobes. I'm working on setting a moble studio and would like to be able see write-ups on them and side by side comparisons.
Go Paul Buff or Photogenic in monolights, and you can't go wrong. Photogenics new line that are powered by Quantum Turbo batteries look especially yummy for location shooting, might be worth a look if you're doing a mobile studio.
Check out Alien Bees monolights made by a sister company to Paul C. Buff. Their lights are very small, very cheap, and look like they have some real potential.( Fan cooled too ! ) They start at $199.00 !

The "Location Lighting" Forum has lots of good information about different lighting systems. Also check out www.gx680.com for more information. I can recommend the Dynalite Uni400jr kit because it is durable and works on both batteries and ac power.
Is anyone using the Alien Bees? I've seen them down at the Photo Expo in NYC last year. They look nice units and I like the price. But how do they compare with others like WL, Photogenic, Speedotron and such?
I don't have a comparison, but do have a set of questions that you may find useful for determining what key features YOU actually need, rather than what works for some other photographer. (No matter how close the subject matter, personal styles make a big difference is what features are critical for you.)
