Re: Just Starting Need Help

Karri,

Do yourself well by taking Ron's and Ebert's suggestions to heart. Do us well by returning occasionally and let us know how things are going. Too many people come for advice and never return with anything positive to report. This is discouraging to those who want to help. Come back...

Re: Just Starting Need Help

Karri,

Bite your tongue (or break a nail) .. it has taken me more tries than 3 on some forums to figure things out. Try becoming a member of a group on Yahoo .. took me over 2 hours the other day.

If your wanting to start a photo business, your going to have more staying power than a few tries. Failing to win a bid sucks, but you have to try again, again, again .. You have two jobs because your doing them for free! Its not easy, like some of the other post allude to, when you want to make money from your time, materials, expenses, etc.

Go to your ISP home page and check if you are given some web space, almost all give at least a few MB .. plenty to post a few photos. You don't have to make a webpage, just upload the images to their computer. Once you have them uploaded, the address would be something like: myISP.com/karri/photo.jpg.

Going to that address would bring up a plain white page with just the photo .. its a quick, easy way to get photos online.

Did you check out the link I mentioned? Its the best I've seen.

RonB

Re: Just Starting Need Help

Yes I checked out that site is was great..I also found out that ( and you probally already know this) But instead of me buying an expensive printer right now I can take my digital smart card to Walmart and have them printed out. Looks great!!! I just had 2 8x10, 2 5x7 and some wallets for $5. That is not bad and I don't have to spend the time on printing. I found out today that the 2 schools are going to pay me 10 dollars for a 4x6 individual 5x7 group and a memory mate. I am excited.. But scared too.. I am waiting on some suggestions on my portrait that Phil posted. Good or Bad... Thanks Karri

Re: Just Starting Need Help

Ok Karri,

Just one thing at a time. For this image the lesson is focus. With rare exceptions, the most important thing about a person is their eyes. You have the arm in focus but the facial plane is not in focus. Always focus on the eyes.

When I was little and playing possum my Momma used to open my eyelid with her finger and say, "Are you in there?"

That is your first critique.

My best,

Ebert Steele
