Re: to quiet

Ron,
Where is one of your trademark examples? How about one from the D60?

I'd love to see a side by side from the two cameras (D30 and D60) if you still have your D30.

Re: to quiet

Weird - I just did a quick n dirty comparison of the D30 and D60 again.
simple a shot off the back deck at same manual exposure. Same lens etc.

I was INCREDIBLY disapointed in the D60. the image looked smeared as if it was taken with a really bad lens.

The D30 was vastly superior in clarity. I had a lumb in my stomach and thought maybe it's motion blur and went out and shot another image. This time I was extra careful to hold it still. And this time I got a vast improvement. And this test looks much better than the D30 test shot.

I'm curious - would anyone know? it doesn't seem likely, but would the larger sensor or anything on the D60 make it more susceptible to motion blur? (over the D30?)

I can't imagine so, but so far I've had many smeared shots that look like motion blur (Camera shake) and I'm not use to seeing these with the D30.

Just curious.
See sample shots in the D30/60 forum topic.

Re: to quiet

Ron, In an earlier thread you wrote:

"So now I dump all color space info."

If you are indeed "dumping" colorspace info and getting the outstanding images you've posted, then you must be using all the right combinations.

First, unless you have it set to behave like pre-version 5,Photoshop looks to your monitor profile and working space to preview your images onscreen, even if you don't have a profile assigned to the image.

Would you mind a brief outline of your D30/60 workflow?

1)Monitor calibrated and profiled?
2)Photoshop working space?
3)Camera parameters?
4)Raw or jpeg?
5)Software to acquire the images?
6)Are you assigning a profile or colorspace. 7)Are you converting to the working space?

I've gathered from some of your posts that you emphasize the artistic and downplayed the technical, but I for one am curious about your routine.

Thanks, Charles

Re: to quiet

Ron-
Thanks for your in-depth response.

While (if) I still have your ear, I am curious about your mainlight. I have done a search of your posts and found several mentions of the bellypan, and I'm wondering if the bellypan is connected to the softbox or something you move separately. I'm having a hard time picturing this on a large soft box. Do you by any chance have a side view of it you'd be willing to share? Also did you ever look to see if the middle diffuser is in place?

Thanks so much for your willingness to share.

Charles
