D1x skin tones and resolution

If anybody is interested I did my first studio portrait with the D1x this morning.

The image was shot as a raw file and then put through Bibble to render it in the 10.6 megapixel format. The image below is a small 800x600 pixel segment cropped from aroun one of the baby's (4 months) eyes so you can judge the skin tones and resolution

Re: D1x skin tones and resolution

Jerry,

Lighting was studio strobes, the main light was through a soft box, the fill light was bounced off the rear wall of the studio.

>but that doesn't necessarily mean studio lighting, right?<

Correct

>to see if the infamous magenta issues still exist?<

It doesn't - I've just broght the same raw file through Capture 2 - here I set up the parameters which were set on the camera (i.e. if you had taken as either a TIF or a JPEG this is what you would have got).
Tone = normal
Sharpening = normal
WB = Flash +2

the result is below:

Re: D1x skin tones and resolution

Hi Carol!

Still on the waiting list for my 'x (sometime in the next 2 weeks is likely). The resolution and tone look awesome!

A couple of quick questions for you -

1- What lighting did you use for the shot (natural, oncamera flash, studio strobes)? It looks like you had a pair of softboxes, but I'm not able to tell for sure. I know you mentioned this was your first studio portrait with this camera, but that doesn't necessarily mean studio lighting, right?

2- If you were using studio lighting, did you try producing images w/o Bibble, to see if the infamous magenta issues still exist?

Thanks!

Jerry

Re: D1x skin tones and resolution

Hi Carol.

Thanks for your response. Interesting to note the significant differences in skin tones between Capture2 and Bibble. Which would you say is more true to your subject?

Also interesting - in the Capture2 version, it's easy to see you reflected in the subject's eye. Your reflection is also present in the Bibble version, just not as obvious.

Take care,

Jerry

Don't you love those guys at Nikon? They Charge for a mere 5.3 megepixels camera and sell you a 10.6 one.

Shush,

If the Nikon marketing guys find out about it, then they'll want to start charging double the price

Carol is the Fuji now for sale?

How would you compare the quality versus your Fuji?
