Yet another D30 wedding -- I love this camera!

I just thought I'd post my latest. I am loving the D30 at weddings! Although the color is stunning (Velvia-ish out of the camera -- I'm shooting portraits on low saturation, and reducing the saturation even more in PS for prints), I especially love it for b&w, which has surprised the heck out of me! I shot a beautiful event in Indianapolis last weekend, and had these two collages of highlights assembled and posted by Monday. Check out this link if you are interested.

Have fun!

Andy

Really nice Andy-
I keep wanting to see them larger - to see the quality/grain. So much can be hidden with this much reduction. Compositions and lighting are excellent. Nice work-

Ron

Thanks, Ron. You're only a few hours north of me. Come on down and I'd love to show you some prints. Alternatively, I will be in K'zoo for a wedding in July -- come and join me if you want to see one of those crazy "wedding photojournalists" in action (and bring the kids!).

I will try and email an unedited file out of the camera. The true test for people in our business is to see prints, though. On paper these images are essentially indistguishable from those that I've been doing on NPH and T400CN.

Re: Yet another D30 wedding -- I love this camera!

I've got no gutz. I bought the D30 as a toy and as you know, It has been a useful tool for shooting children in the studio.

I planned on using it for my one prom that I shoot for a senior exchange thing I do for a schoool. I had planned on using the D30, I purchased a D-wallet for backup during the event to make sure I wouldn't loose the pics - but I chickened out. I shot the RZ and 15 rolls of 120 film.

Shooting weddings with it would really stress me out. Keep up the good work.

Andy,
It sounds like you really like your D30. I have had mine for 4 months now and I have used it for 90 % of my studio work. I plan on using it for Seniors this year.
I really like the camera. I talked a buddy of mine in getting one and he also likes it.
It is good to hear others who like the camera and are excited to have it. it does have it's little things about it, but what camera doesn't!!!!!
I haven't bought film since Dec. 3,2000, really!!! My lab gives me up to a 20x24 LED print (on groups of 5or 6) and a 16x20 sharp as a tack for couples and individuals, so Seniors, which I do mostly 16x20's and smaller will work out great.
You sounded so thrilled about the camera I just wanted you to know that there are others out there that like it too.
Keep it up, and I went to the link, looks real good..........

Andy, I like your style and your enthusiasm for the D30. I've had mine now for about 2 weeks along with the 28-70L series lens and 550 ex. I have no regrets. I do have a few questions, What lenses are you using the most, do you have more than one camera body going at a time, have you had dust problems changing lenses, and who is doing your printing? In the past week I've had 3 or 4 brides express much interest in me using this camera at their wedding, and seeing work like yours is pushing past my fears. Lorin

Andy ñ the image quality of the D30 as we all know is incredible -- and we all know the shortcomings of the software. But how did you handle the downloading/editing/processing of the images efficiently?

I've been a Nikon film shooter and am on the fence as to whether to go with Nikon and or Kodak or switch to Canon. It's a tough decision considering the investment in glass and both have their merits.
