Workflow help

Having just purchased the D30 I now need to get down and have a consistant work flow. As I read the various threads I'm not quite sure which way to go. I will admit I am not the most computer literate so I'm looking for the least complicated way to achieve my goal.

Some info that might help any who care to respond ...I shoot portraits only, quality is of utmost importance, and require a way of viewing images for future use (ie: thumbnails?) I have a 340mb micro that will need to be downloaded to the laptop as I shoot weddings.

All images will eventually go thru PS for editing and output.

Is Zoombrowser the best dispite its slow speed?

Thanks in advance,

Tom Coles

Re: Workflow help

Hello

I have a similar set up. I use a 1GB IBM drive.

I work as follows:
1. Download all RAW files with a SanDisk card reader into a map.

2. Run Yarc (se other place) to get the JPEG only

3. Load the JPEG into ZoomBrowser.

Now I can se what i have, and if I want any TIFF, i see the name of the file and get the tiff by using Yarc.

By using only the JPEG as work files I can mail, broese etc w/o any pain during bad speed and slow conversion to TIFF. I also spares a lot of diskspace. A tiff takes 18,8MB but a RAW 3-4MB.

Roine

Re: Workflow help

Tom,
I put my 1G MicroDrive in the reader and drag them to my hard drive. Then to see thumbnails I open them up in QPict Browser which you can download on CNet..........
QPict lets you rotate, enlarge thumbnails, and enlarge to full screen. They stay numbered as from the camera,
mine is the D30. You can trash the ones you do not want in QPict and then the ones you want to save are still on your hraddive in the proper folder.
I use Mac but it also works on PC....I you have any question call me or e mail me if I can help...........
Hope this helps some, good luck...

Re: Workflow help

I put my card in the card reader and then use CRW Bridge.
http://crwbridge.dalfors.com/

It allows me to immediately see RAW images at full screen size. I can even rotate them. I then can eliminate the ones I don't want rather than having yarc or Thumbs+ convert all of them to a tif or jpg first. If I have yarc or Thumbs+ make a tif or a jpg after my viewing in CRW Bridge, it shortens the time considerably.

And here I thought this topic was dead!

Thanks to all for keeping this one alive. Please keep sending your workflow ideas so I can glean from each.

Thanks,

Re: Workflow help

Try out the Breezebrowser that is talked about on the D30 forum. It is a wonderful program and with some more tweaking, will function even greater!
