PS - Photoshop
IR - ImageReady

Both Adobe products.

Don't know if anyone mentioned Dreamweaver yet, and for any of you who like having the control of coding your own site, but still being able to look at changes as you progress, try Allaire Homesite.

Re: Need some view points

I put the entry on the back burner for the time being and starting playing with this. http://www.houseofphotography.com/ho...house-test.htm
not polished, but the idea seems to work well. How ever as I add more pictures the load time takes longer.
Comments appreciated.

Re: Need some view points

Ron,

Nice, but I think that should be your second page. Your original idea was far more classy. Perhaps you could add 'Welcome' in a smaller point size and maybe a small darkened area (say bottom right) which would have the etched words 'Push to enter' (make this a hot spot and link it to the 2nd page).

Just my humble opinion.

Re: Need some view points

The splash screen will have a "ENTER" button that's a given (I'm not even thinking of the obvious) that is done and put on back burner. This later page is what they will see when clicking on the "senior catagory".
I want to replace my presently boring senior gallery. This is simply a way to have a little more fun, interactive gallery. Which page number it is... is really moot. I presume it will be 3-4 pages in depth from the start page. I'm really pretty experienced at where to put each page. http://www.prismkites.com is a 80+mb site that I've worked on for a couple years with over 300 pages. So I was really looking more for comments on quality issues. I don't know if I should go larger pictures and less graphics 'fluff' or keep the picture small as is. I just hate how much quality I loose when conforming to the low resolutions that most people run at. Then considering speed of slow connections - that's another problem. (though my feeling is quality first, if they're slow they can wait or look elsewhere).

On the later page... I'm not nuts about the 'text descirptions' that are mouse'd over, so I'm thinking of changing these to small thumbnails and then mouse over them to see a larger version in the frame.

Re: Need some view points

My apologies Ron, I thought you were intending to replace the original page with the new one which you have just posted

Re: Need some view points

No problem Carol, I appreciate the comments - but the basics can be assumed.
I put the splash page up, will look at it a few days and tweak as I find things that bug me. (like the handle is slightly more magenta than the rest of the image. So I may adjust that.

I also tossed up a new Senior gallery, I went with thumbnails rather than the text to mouse over. I like the way it turned out. The only problem... I'm stuck with horizontal composition, so I'm gonna make another gallery page with all verticals.

final senior gallery page. http://www.houseofphotography.com/senior-main.htm
Final splash... http://www.houseofphotography.com
Is anything ever really final? = )

I think I'd love to add a shutter sound when people mouse over each pic. I can't recall the html code to do so. If anyone knows, please let me know... otherwise I'll find it somewhere.

Opps forgot a back button on the gallery page. Will have to add that. (added)

I'm curious to know the load time for someone with a 28.8 or so. I have cable so it's pretty instant loading.

Re: Need some view points

The senior gallery page took about 3-4 mins. to load on a 28.8 connection.

Ever consider having 2 options to navidate your site - a "minimalist" version with mostly text and compressed graphics and another version with all the bells and whistles?
The text version can have a disclaimer saying that it has been optimized for faster viewing and that the graphical version is more appealing.
