I also had my dealer email me today about the Digital Wallet, knocking 100.00 off the quouted price I had from them last week, I couldn't pass it up - so ordered it today. Will see how it works when it arrives Friday or Monday. |

I am going to use my Canon D30 for Seniors this year. I have been using it for business people, couples, small groups of 6 or less, commercial shoots, pets, and children.
I have had 20x24's printed on the Kodak LED printer from my color lab and they are GREAT !!!
I have not done weddings with it yet and I problably won't until next year. One thing at a time so you don't drown !!!!
Best of luck,

Ron, I understand your worries about losing digital images, but I would venture to say that there are MORE chances for problems with film. After shooting weddings 100% digital for the last 2.5 years, I've only lost 5 wedding images total. When I was using film, I seemed to run into things like a roll being processed incorrectly, my assistant loading the film in backwards or even a lost roll. I probably lost two rolls of images each year. We usually managed to figure things out, but I certainly don't miss the problems with using film when it comes to making sure you get the images back.
As for digital, you see in on the LCD and you back it up as soon as you get a chance. Once it's on your laptop, there is a very very very small chance that you'll lose the image.
Cheers!

| | | Re: What\'s everybody using??? Hi there everybody. I have been planning to set up a digital studio for quite a while now. And you know what, the time has come.
In the beginning of next month, I will get the following gear: Canon d30 with a couple of lenses (28-70 2,8 L USM and 100-300 F5,6), Elinchrom studio kit, 3 units(500 series), EX 550 + transmitter for on the road jobs, decent laptop and software. All this will be around 10 000$
If you have any last minute suggestions please let me know SOON ;-) Oh, and printer is included as well, which one I should get, Epson 1280 or 2000P or something completely different??

You might consider one EL-1000 which gives you more light and also a 200W modeling light. This is important for a group in full body shots. The extra light will assist the D30 in focussing which is a little slow in dim light.
The Epson 200 will give you a little better prints but it is very slow, up to 30 min. in the best quality settings.
The 1280 I am not shure if it has 6 colores or only 4.

| | | Re: What\'s everybody using??? Thanks for the advice. I have some last minute changes, my original intention was to buy a laptop, but instead IĄm seriously thinking of RENTING one. This would leave me with enough capital to buy those extra lights or possibly a macro lens or a small sub-dye printer...(curse of the limited capital:you canĄt buy everything you see on the shelves :-(
About the printer:They both use 6 colors, difference is that 2000P uses mineral-based inks which should have unforeseen longevity(or so Epson claims...).
The price is also doubled compared to 1280 1280 (To be specific 1290 in Europe)

In regards to a laptop, you wouldn't want to be doing any serious color correcting anyway, unless you could hook it up to a crt monitor. Maybe you could get away with a desktop computer with software instead, if you don't have any computer.
Good luck,
