Proofing Methods???????

I am just wondering if anybody out there is now proofing via a digital projector hooked up to their computer so that you can show clients lvery large images similar to the old fashioned transproofing technique.

At the present moment in time I am proofing via a slide show on a computer monitor backed up with 'contact' prints generated from ThumbsPlus. I use a similar method for proofing my weddings - but in this case I loan them the CD which they can take away and view at their leisure (they cannot directly take images off the CD as the slideshow is in the form of an EXE file). They could always do a screen capture of course, but the images are very low resolution, so wthey would not be able to get any decent sized prints from it).

Re: Proofing Methods???????

Carol,

I am proofing digital on a monitor as you are, I have considered buying one of the flat panel plasma displays to proof on.
I think that the plasma although expensive might be better quality than the projectors. I plan to run some tests on the two before jumping in.
I found some 42" plasma diplays in the $6,000 range.

I have been using Adobe acrobat to create protected files similar to your EXE files, I first create web pages in photoshop then convert these to PDF files.

What program are you using for the slide shows?

Todd

Re: Proofing Methods???????

Hi Todd,

The plasma screen sounds interesting, although quite expensive.

The slide creation program I am using is Slides and Sounds Plus from InMedia (www.inmediapresents.com) although I believe they have ceased selling the product. It is remarkably easy to use with many varied transitional effects and you can add sound to it quite easily. The Mac version also allows fade in/fade out of music.

Now I am familiar with the program I can put together a slide show of 200 to 300 images in around 20 to 30 mins, but I limit the transitional effects to around 5 or 6 different types.

Hi Todd !

I'm curious about Your technique with Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat...
Could You explain more ?
I'd like a simple way to send a "contact sheet" to my customers.

Best regards

Re: Proofing Methods???????

The technique I use is quite simple.

I use the Automate feature in PS to create a web gallery from a file of images. Then I grab the Index.html file from this gallery folder and drag it onto the Acrobat icon on your desktop. I then go into Tools> Web Capture>View web links to capture most of the links on the image. It helps if you design your Web Gallery as a single page.

After this process I click through the links at the end of the gallery to make sure I have captured all of the links.

When I save the PDF file I Select the Standard security protection and check the boxes to prevent printing, copying, or selecting the document.

This security keeps honest people honest but a screen capture will rob you of your images.

I try to find a happy medium between a quality preview and limit the printing abilities of the image when I selct the file resolution size and Jpeg properties in the Automate menu in PS.

I hope this makes sense.

This requires a full version of Acrobat which sells for around $250.

Adobe does give you full permission to distribute acrobat reader, I include the Mac, Win 98 and Win2k versions with my previews on CDR.

Todd

Re: Proofing Methods???????

Thank You Todd !

I have read, and understood, I think...
I hope I can try this later today. I already have a full Adobe Acrobat, so i wouldn't need to buy it, that was why I was so curious about how you made it...

Thank You
