UDMA CF Cards:Hoodman vs Lexar?

Does anyone have any insight as to why one would pay almost double for the Hoodman UDMA CF Cards - are they different faster, or better than the Lexar Pro or San Disc Extreme? I will be on a long shoot in Africa and need the fastest most reliable Cards with me; I have the Hoodman Card reader and it rocks - just wondering about the cards...

Re: UDMA CF Cards:Hoodman vs Lexar?

i have always used lexar or sandisk. its been a while for the lexars but use the sandisk extreme IIIs and just switched over to the IVs.

last year i had a client drop an 4GB GF Ext III card out side an office in the planter in winter here in North Idaho. It saw rain, harsh some, dirt, pollen, dust and bugs/microbs for 7-8 months. a landscaper called me the next summer, i have my name and # on the back of all cards. front label was completely faded. after a quick cleaning it worked perfect in the card reader no corrupt files. just like new. sold it just to be safe.

we see winters with moderate to heavy snow and summers in the 80s to high 90s.

this year i upgraded to the extreme IVs cards and the new FW reader for extra speed.

funny thing...my 1d mark III shooting 10fps raw files only writes at 15mb/s at best, which is the speed of the ultra II some of the cheaper cards. the Extreeme III and IV at 30 and 45mb/s only show when downloading to the computer.

I use Lexar cards exclusively, and I've had a couple go through the wash with no problems. Still using them. (Yes, Yes, I know why more than once? Just a klutz, I guess). I don't know what Hoodman cards have that the others don't have. I have had other Hoodman products, and they are all excellent.
