Re: New rule: never use a CD card that gave you a problem

Same experience some years ago that resulted in my strict adherence to Rule #1/2 above! Had a Lexar Pro Series that corrupted images, and as advised by the manufacturer, reformatted in PC and camera and it seemed to work fine. That is until I was shooting an event and re-used it as the last card of a series for a few final group shots that were fortunately predominately duplicates. It locked up tight! I tried everything I could, then sent it to Lexar, who was unable to recover anything. They sent me a replacement card with apologies, and at least admitted the prior card was "toast".

Then about 1 1/2 years ago, I had a Sandisk Extreme III card that locked up as well, but this time it was a full failure the first time. I sent it into Sandisk, and only after providing a copy of the invoice from an authorized distributor, did they evaluate it, confirm it as permanently failed, and replace it. Not as user friendly as my Lexar experience, but effective in the end. It did reinforce my practice of keeping copies of all equipment invoices, both photographic and other!

Re: New rule: never use a CD card that gave you a problem

Why use cards for one camera and not another camera? never heard of that.
But if you follow our new rule and discard all bad cards, this should not be necessary correct?

Never formatting card? I format after each shoot. Don't you want to format, clear the decks?

Funny, it was Lexar tech who said, go ahead and use the card again if it tests ok.

Sandisc customer support is very bad, Lexar much nicer.

So even though the card seems fine, there is something underlying we can't see?

This was my first real bad card ever in 3 years of shooting digital, and it was a new card - Sandisc.
