Re: Canon's new Media Storage M80

I got tired of waiting for Canon to decide if they were going to bring the Media Storage M80 to North America so I went out and bought Epson's P-5000 this morning. It is charging at this moment. I will give you my assessment of it shortly.

Cheers,
John

Re: Canon's new Media Storage M80

John,

I spoke to the Canon EOS marketing executive for The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg last week and he couldn't or wouldn't mention a date the M80 would enter the European shops. So I guess it will take some month´s before we can buy it here. I think the Epson will be as good if not even better. Happy shooting on your upcoming trip.

cheers,

Joost de la Court

Do you do this by plugging in a hard drive and navigating through some menus? I have a p-2000, and don't see a way to do it, though it would be a nice to be able to do.

Re: Canon's new Media Storage M80

Hi Joost,

Funny enough, my wife and I are booked to be in Holland in June. What is your favorite Amsterdam pro photography store? I was going to wait until June to buy Canon's M80 in Holland but now I would just like to see a pro store there. This Epson is indeed a good tool. I'm liking it a lot all ready. Very easy to use and fast. The viewing screen is big, bright and sharp.

Cheers,
John

Re: Canon's new Media Storage M80

John,

Sorry for the late response. If You are in Amsterdam, you might try this store: Calumet Amsterdam. It's not near the citycentre but it's worth the short trip (subway/taxi) if you have enough time to spend there. I live in the north so I don't visit them often but they have a good reputation. Avoid the shops in the Nieuwe Dijk-area (near the central Dam-square). Their reputation is much worse.
Here is their link
Digital Cameras, Camcorders, Photography Equipment - Calumet Photographic Online

regards,

Joost

Re: Canon's new Media Storage M80

Howdy folks,

I used the new Epson P8000 on a two week trip to Egypt. It worked flawlessly and was a dream to use. I was able to show my shots to the tour group each evening and that was quite a hit.

The LCD viewer is sharp and bright and gave me great peace of mind after using the old non-viewer SuperDigiBin of yesteryear.

Do not wait for Canon to get their act together and to bring their Media Storage viewer to North America. It would be a bit of a flyer to buy their "first-off" model anyway.

Epson's product is tried, true and highly recommended.

Cheers,
John
P.S. I do not work for Epson. Actually I was really hoping the Canon product would work out as I've been a Canon shooter all my life.

John,

Great news on your report and thanks for keeping this thread current. As an EX-Digibin user (hmmmmm, maybe time for Ebay), I know the direction I need to go...

-Robert

PS...how was your battery consumption on your trip and did you need a converter?
